2020 Moderator Election

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Full elections have three phases and an optional fourth phase (Primary):

  1. Question Collection
  2. Nomination
  3. Primary
  4. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hi. I'm Rand. I love literature.

Why to vote for me:

  • I'm the site's top flagger, top voter, top editor, and top reviewer in all six review queues. So I'm already doing a lot of moderation work here.
  • I have four years of experience moderating another Stack Exchange site, Science Fiction & Fantasy. (So I'm well aware of the differences and wouldn't try to import SFF policies here.)
  • I've been active on Literature and its meta since day 1, and helped create important policies including on recommendation questions, homework questions, language tagging, etc. So I know the site policies as well as anyone.

Why not to vote for me:

  • Electing me would eliminate one of the most active non-diamond moderators. If I had a diamond, I'd try to leave non-obvious close/reopen/delete/undelete votes to the community, so I wouldn't be reviewing as much as I do now. Others would need to fill that gap.

Hey all you cool cats and kittens... Oh wait, wrong platform...

Hello there Literature.SE, my name is Skooba and I would like to nominate myself for the honor and privilege of being one of your moderators.

I have been with the site since its commitment phase, but I would also be the first to admit I am not an expert in Literature. I like many here (I believe) just have a love for literature in all its forms.

This is also not my most active site on the SE network, but I have been around for about 4 years and have earned access to all user moderator privileges (on other sites). I feel confident in my understanding of the network rules, policy, and guidelines.

I have seen great things happen and communities grow and flourish while even making a few friends along the way. I have seen some of the "not so great" things in our recent past. As I moderator I would strive to keep the positive vibes flowing while maintaining an atmosphere of respect and inclusion with a keen eye on promoting high quality content.

I look forward to the election cycle and will be in chat to answer any questions.

Hello, I'm heather.

Let me disclaim that I stopped dropping by this site so frequently, and I'm primarily nominating because I love this site and I want to make sure there's a variety of candidates. (I would certainly start coming by more if I became a mod.)

When I was active I regularly went through review queues and I do have a decent amount of reputation. I'm also somewhat experienced with moderation as I've been pro tem moderator on Quantum Computing SE for around two years.

EDIT: I just noticed Mith's question on the announcement post; my apologies. As someone who was rather...in the thick of things this past fall, I will continue pushing as I have been for the safety of those on this network, especially LGBT+ folks. I do not know how to convey appropriately my sadness over what has happened this past year. Aza and Mith were good mods, and Aza has left the network entirely. The notification I got for the election brought everything home just that little bit more. The best I can do is work hard to continue to persuade SE to do more and to continue speaking out against problems, to continue flagging and deleting and trying.

I am Tsundoku and I am nominating myself for the Literature SE pro-tem mod election.

In addition to posting questions and answers, I have written literally hundreds of tag wiki excerpts, which shows I don't mind doing the less exciting work that is needed for the site's upkeep.

I have also contributed to the site by editing questions to improve them, by reviewing issues in the review queues, by making many suggestions for the reading challenges and by proposing a change to the reading challenges.

I have been moderator on Language Learning SE since October 2017.

I hope for our site to become more diverse, both in the literatures being discussed and in our userbase. Diversity in our userbase needs to be protected by taking a clear stance against bigotry and aggressive behaviour.

During the day I work in digital accessibility, which is an area where diversity is also important. It is an area in which I have also witnessed shortsightedness and uncivility, but whereas making things accessible to people with disability can cost time and effort, being tolerant online does not. There is no excuse for that.
