I get my literature from the public library, mostly detective mysteries but also other novels. Among the authors I've read are: John Grisham, Louise Penny, Michael Connelly, Mauve Binchy, Eileen Goudge, Dorothea Benton Frank, Susan Wiggs, David Baldacci, David Housewright, and C.J. Box. If at all possible, I read their series in order. To do this, I find the author's website or the Series In Order website that lists their books, and make a list of the books in the order they were printed. Then I look to see what's available through the library and place holds. I've gotten to be reasonably good at working the system to obtain the books in order. These real life stories teach me so much about the world, about character development, and life in general. I find a well-written mystery or thriller to be intellectually stimulating.
